The Reviewers Choice Award is built on customer-review data, applied the same way for every business we evaluate.
We Analyze Public Google Reviews
We pull a business's public Google review profile and run it through our scoring engine. We look at six dimensions in total — but only three of them decide whether a business qualifies for the award. The other three are informational: they help paint a fuller picture without affecting pass or fail.
This split is intentional. The three pass/fail criteria are the ones that customers and AI search systems weigh most heavily when evaluating a business. The other three add context.

A business must meet the threshold on each of these three criteria. There are no tiers — pass or not.

Three more dimensions — sentiment, authenticity, and responsiveness — round out the picture. They show up on the result page and on the public profile, but they don't decide the award. Splitting them this way keeps the award decision based on signals customers see directly (rating, volume, recency) while still giving owners visibility into the qualitative side of their review profile.
Qualified Businesses Can Activate the Award
When a business qualifies, the award becomes available to claim. Activating a membership turns the qualification into a working asset:
- A digital award badge and embed code for the business's own website
- A verified profile in our public "Best of" directory for your city
- AI search visibility setup — submitting verified business data to the structured-data sources that ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews consult
- A printable certificate and a verification page anyone can use to confirm the award is real
The award is verified by a business's reviews. The membership is what activates it as a trust signal in the places customers actually look.
Annual Renewal Keeps the Award Current
Awards are valid for one year. Each year we re-score every business against current review data — so the award reflects present-day reputation, not a snapshot from years ago. If a business still qualifies, the award continues uninterrupted. If something has shifted, we let the owner know first.

How does a business qualify?
Qualification is based entirely on a business's public Google review data. The scoring engine evaluates star rating, review volume, and recency — all three need to meet the threshold. A business can run a free check at /check to see exactly where they stand.
What's the difference between qualifying and being awarded?
Qualifying means the review profile meets the criteria. The award itself activates when the business claims their membership — that's what unlocks the badge, the directory listing, and the AI visibility setup. The qualification is verified by the reviews; the membership is what puts the award to work.
What if a business disagrees with their score?
We welcome feedback. If a business believes their data has been analyzed incorrectly, they can email us at hello@reviewerschoiceawards.org and we'll take a look. The methodology and thresholds are applied the same way for every business — no individual exceptions — but data errors get fixed when we find them.
How often are businesses re-evaluated?
All awards are renewed annually. We re-score every business each year against current review data, so the award reflects present-day reputation rather than a snapshot from when the business first qualified.
Can an award be revoked?
Yes. If we discover that a business has engaged in review manipulation or fraud, the award is revoked. Awards can also lapse if a business no longer meets the qualifying criteria at annual re-evaluation — in that case, we let the owner know first and explain which criterion shifted.
Why does the award include AI visibility setup?
AI search tools — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews — increasingly answer 'who's the best [service] near me?' with one confident recommendation. AI systems weight third-party recognition heavily when picking that recommendation. Submitting your verified award data to the sources AI consults is the most direct way to translate your real reputation into AI visibility.
